Wheat is a cereal plant, which bears grains on a central stem or an “ear.” The center of the wheat berry is the “heart,” which is also called the “germ.” The germ nourishes the wheat plant to promote its growth and is the most nutrient-rich element of the wheat kernel. Oils derived from this part of wheat are called “wheat-germ oil.”
